SUSTAINABILITY

PRODUCION PROCESSES AND RAW MATERIALS

Since our birth, we have been involved in the constant search for innovative raw materials that have less impact on the environment. In addition, we surround ourselves with processes within the company that guarantee a new production model combining sustainability with fashion. Join us and learn more about our practices.

BIODEGRADABLE FABRIC

All our bikinis are made of biodegradable fabrics that have AMNI SOUL ECO® technology, the world’s first biodegradable polyamide, which decomposes in up to 3 years when in contact with a landfill, while ordinary lycra can take 70 to 100 years. to decompose.

SUSTAINABLE VISCOSE

We use LENZING™ ECOVERO™ certified viscose which is extracted from natural reforestation wood. The management of the trees is carried out only in controlled and certified areas and has the EU Ecolabel international seal, which attests to the viscose production with a high standard of sustainable practices.

CERTIFIED COTTON

The cotton of our garments has traceability and certification of non-use of substances harmful to the environment. Check out the stamps below:
– STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® 1
– BCI (Better Cotton Initiative)
– I’m Cotton Movement
– Supplier certified by ABVTEX

PURE SILK

Silk is a natural, renewable, biodegradable and compostable fiber. Naturally hypoallergenic, comfortable and gentle on the skin. Its cultivation eliminates the use of pesticides and generates carbon credits. Our silk fabrics are finished with soy-based vegetable soap, which is less aggressive to the environment.

UPCYCLING

Upcycling is an innovative way we found to reuse raw material that would otherwise be discarded. From fabric leftovers from our production, we sort what can be reused and sew hair scrunchies that go as a gift with every purchase. In addition to greatly reducing the waste generated, we also generate income for a local artisan.

DELIVERY WITHOUT CO2 EMISSIONS

We offer on our website the option of using CO2-free shipping through bike delivery. We also use ecological bikes in our try-at-home and exchange service in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to ensuring lower C02 emissions in our deliveries, you also guarantee the comfort of changing your piece or trying it on without leaving home.

PLANTABLE LABELS

It’s not just textile waste that we should be concerned about. Clothing Tags are commonly discarded with a very low lifespan. For that, we brought the solution of Plantable Tags that accompany your bikini. In addition to being natural, renewable, biodegradable and compostable, Tag turns into a daisy when planted.

PLASTIC-FREE AND RECYCLABLE PACKAGING

Many countries are moving towards banning single-use plastic due to its harmful effect on the environment and life. Unfortunately, plastic packaging is the most common, especially among beachwear companies. We use creative ways to deliver a product with a unique, plastic-free packaging.

ETHICAL PRODUCTION

We produce locally in Rio de Janeiro in an ethical and responsible manner. We work with local seamstresses who are regularized and in decent working conditions. We also prioritize garments that have the ABVTEX certificate – the program was a response from ABVTEX in favor of the use of decent work in the production chain of fashion articles.

VALUATION OF LOCAL PROFESSIONALS

In our first campaign outside of Rio de Janeiro, we realized the dream of shooting in Lençóis Maranhenses. The objective of the project was to exalt not only beauty, but mainly culture, also managing to act as a stimulating agent of the economy through the hiring of a team composed only of local professionals. We will continue to act in the same way through our collections.

MADE ETHICALLY AND RESPONSIBLY IN RIO DE JANEIRO

We prioritize fashion based on Slow Fashion – advocating timeless and durable pieces. We work with regular seamstresses and in decent working conditions in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to generating income for small local artisans with the upcycling of materials from our production.

Our in-house team is made up of a modeler, a stylist and an administrator who work in synergy. A small team, but extremely specialized in developing unique pieces with great wearability and comfort.

We also have an external team made up of a consultant with over 20 years of experience for guidance and fashion research and product engineering specialized in beachwear. Finally, we develop our prints internally in partnership with 2 designers with extensive experience in graphic design, running prints and colors.

All our bikinis are made from biodegradable fabrics that have AMNI SOUL ECO® technology, the world’s first biodegradable polyamide, which decomposes in up to 3 years when in contact with a landfill.

What makes a fabric considered biodegradable is the quality of the material to decompose in nature in a short space of time. Raw materials such as cotton, silk and other natural fabrics are naturally biodegradable because they are produced using plant or animal fibers that decompose quickly.

On the other hand, synthetic fabrics are the great villains of the large accumulation of garbage caused in dumps, since their fibers are mostly derived from petroleum (which also gives rise to plastic) and do not have this quality of accelerated decomposition. .

Therefore, the great advantage of our beachwear fabrics is that they have a 100% Brazilian technology that is able to bring the quality of natural fibers to synthetic fibers.

As a way of balancing this account, our fabrics have the CO2control® seal, manufactured with auditable materials and processes and recognized efforts in the search for sustainability in textiles, such as: compostability; biodegradability at disposal; exemption from genetic modifications; closed production cycles; non-use of toxic or harmful products to human health and production traceability. In addition, we have the option of ecological bike deliveries in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Pitaia Rio is committed to ensuring that its production has the least possible impact on the environment. That’s why we upcycle material that would otherwise be discarded, giving a creative purpose to what would become garbage and generating income for a local seamstress.
From the scraps of fabric used in the production of your piece, we make our scrunchies (hairpins) that accompany the piece when you buy it. What we really can’t take advantage of, we put together in boxes until we give the minimum amount to be discarded in a sanitary landfill, where its biodegradability characteristic finds ideal conditions to decompose in up to 3 years.
We also offer our customers the option of reverse logistics to ensure that their biodegradable bikini is properly disposed of.

The fabrics used in the manufacture of our bikinis use recycled water in their production and our prints are digital, which reduces the waste of water by about 95% compared to traditional printing.

2019

From day one, we were concerned with using only biodegradable fabrics in all lycra pieces, in addition to using only natural fabrics in our garments. We started with the proposal to upcycle our fabrics that become scrunchies and bags to store the bikini. We also ban any plastic material from our packaging choices. And we also implement eco-friendly bike deliveries without CO2 emissions. Finally, we implemented a completely free reverse logistics to properly dispose of bikinis after a long period of use.

2020

In our first campaign outside of Rio de Janeiro, we realized the dream of shooting in Lençóis Maranhenses. The objective of the project was to exalt not only beauty, but mainly culture, also managing to act as a stimulating agent of the economy through the hiring of a team composed only of local professionals. We carried out our first sustainable plus size line. We implemented the use of plantable tags. And we started campaigns to donate part of the profit.

2021

Use of sustainable viscose extracted from reforested wood. Use of certified and traceable cotton.

COMMITMENT UNTIL 2025:

We want to offer the local community where our collections are inspired a percentage of the revenue and give back to strengthen the culture that inspired us. In addition to continuing to encourage the hiring of local professionals who work in the creation of audiovisual content for our collections.

We want to offer a 100% certified product and we are committed to delivering this to our customers. Every year we are able to bring in new fabrics with certifications and our goal is that all our raw materials meet this requirement.

There is a range of technological fabrics in the world that have a significantly lower impact on the environment. Biodegradable fabrics is one of them, but we are committed to bringing a portfolio of raw materials.

COMMITMENT UNTIL 2030:

Certification as a B Corp is not just a way of recognizing the qualities of a product or service. It is concerned with monitoring and measuring factors that go beyond the economic performance of the business, taking into account, above all, the social and environmental performance that the company generates in the course of its operation.

We are committed to having a production with 100% reuse of our fabrics.
